WARNER AVE., EDWARDS ST., SPRINGDALE ST. BRIDGE PROJECTS
East Garden Grove-Wintersburg Channel, Huntington Beach
Purpose
OC Public Works is reconstructing the bridge structures at three locations in Huntington Beach to support the flood control operations of the East Garden Grove-Wintersburg Channel that spans below each bridge.
These bridge modifications will supplement recently-completed improvements along the flood control channel located between Warner Avenue and Goldenwest Street, designed to enhance flood protection for the surrounding community.
Project Overview
Construction activities include:
- Adding flood walls to the bridge structures (see locations listed below)
- Replacing sections of the roadway surface at each location
- Removing/replacing the center median islands along Warner Avenue and Springdale Street
- Traffic control safety measures as described below
WHERE
The project includes the following bridge locations and included lane closures:
- Warner Ave bridge:
700-feet west of Springdale Street
- Edwards St bridge:
500-feet north of Warner Avenue
- Springdale St bridge:
500-feet north of Warner Avenue
ATTENTION! Traffic Control Safety Measures: Bridge Locations and at Shields Drive
Lane Closures:
One lane in each direction will be closed at all three bridge locations in a staggered schedule:
- Warner Avenue and Edwards Street lane closures will occur first and simultaneously, starting on September 21, 2023.
- Then, Springdale Street lane closures in early 2024. Lane closures at each bridge location will not be in place during the entire project duration.
Shields Drive Access Closure at Edwards Street:
- Due to the close proximity of construction activities and related lane closures along Edwards St, the east end of Shields Dr at Edwards St will be closed for an extended period — there will be no vehicle access from/to Shields Dr at Edwards St.
- Please use alternate routes (as shown on map below) to access Heil Ave and Springdale St.
- Pedestrian access from/to Shields at Edwards St will remain open.
Anticipated Project Schedule
September 21, 2023 — January 2025
Schedule subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
Lane closures at each bridge location will not be in place during the entire project duration.
