Groundbreaking Kicks Off Haster Retarding Basin, Pump Station & Recreational Field Project
GARDEN GROVE, CA—Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen, OC Public Works, and OC Parks are hosting a groundbreaking on June 29, 2012 at 10 a.m. This groundbreaking highlights the beginning of the Haster Retarding Basin, Pump Station and Recreational Field Project. The event will be held at Twin Lakes Freedom Park, 12952 Lampson Avenue, Garden Grove. Parking is available in the lot off of Lampson Avenue or street parking.
The Haster Retarding Basin, Pump Station and Recreational Field Project will provide regional flood protection and recreational opportunities for the community. The County and their contractor are beginning with the re-construction of the existing retarding basin to increase capacity, the construction of a storm water pump station and filling in a portion of the basin for an additional two acre recreational field. Also, there will be a new, expanded parking lot, jogging trail, park shelters, exercise stations and many other improved features.
"The groundbreaking brings us one step closer to having a recreational field in our community that Orange County families can enjoy, "said First District Supervisor Janet Nguyen, whose leadership yielded a $15.6 million grant for the completion of this project. "The project addresses a tremendous need for open space in the First District and I am thrilled to be part of this momentous event."
Construction begins next week and it is anticipated that it will take approximately 18 months for the project to be completed.
The $25.2 million project is funded by the Orange County Flood Control District, OC Parks and by the State's Department of Water Resources through a Proposition 1E grant.
