Construction Commences on Midway City Street & Storm Drain Improvement

MIDWAY CITY, CA--The County of Orange will begin construction of the Midway City Street and Storm Drain Improvement Phase I & II Project on February 7, 2011. The estimated completion date of this 9.8 million dollar (actual amount is $9,847,257.00) construction project will be in June 2012. This project will affect areas bound to the north by Hazard Avenue, to the south by Bolsa Avenue, to the east by Newland Street and to the west by Beach Boulevard.

During the first weeks of construction, Midway City residents will see storm drain improvements at Adams Street and Jackson Street. Construction crews will not obstruct any areas where Lunar New Year (Tet Festival) public celebrations may be taking place.

"The Midway City Street and Storm Drain Improvements have been on the drawing board for years," said Supervisor Janet Nguyen, who represents the First District. "I have worked with OC Public Works and my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors to approve funding to complete this important infrastructure project. This project will serve Midway City, an unincorporated community in the heart of the First District that is under the care of the County of Orange. I would like to thank OC Public Works for working with all stakeholders, including local residents, in preparation for these improvements."

Upon completion, the project will offer many benefits to Midway City residents. The project will alleviate flooding, reconstruct and lower the street pavement, and provide storm drain improvements within the affected neighborhoods. Other improvements will include the relocation and restoration of water and sewer lines, reconstruction of damaged sidewalks and driveway approaches, alleyway reconstruction work, tree replacement and grass restoration in the parkways.

Residents in affected neighborhoods and area businesses will receive notification five days prior to the commencement of work on their streets. County staff and their contractors have been involved in numerous outreach efforts to explain the project to residents and business owners, including hosting several community meetings, and hand-delivering notification letters to residents and businesses.
