SAN CLEMENTE--The County of Orange is hosting a public meeting on November 18, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the City of San Clemente's Community Center's Auditorium. The auditorium is located at 100 North Calle Seville in San Clemente. The meeting is being held to solicit community input on a proposed project associated with the La Pata Gap Closure between Ortega Highway, just outside of San Juan Capistrano, and Calle Saluda in San Clemente. The project also includes extending Camino del Rio from where it currently ends, to connect it with the proposed La Pata extension. Upon completion, the project will relieve traffic congestion, minimize environmental impacts and improve south Orange County's quality of life.
This is the second public meeting the County has hosted on the proposed project. On December 2, 2009, a scoping meeting gave residents and interested parties the opportunity to comment on the proposed scope and content of the environmental information to be included in the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR).
The DEIR evaluates potential environmental impacts of the proposed project that would widen La Pata Avenue from three to five lanes from about 2,700 feet south of Ortega Highway to the County's Prima Deshecha Landfill and extend it by constructing four new lanes from the landfill south to Calle Saluda and Avenida La Pata in San Clemente. The DEIR also evaluates potential environmental impacts of the extension of Camino del Rio Street, to its future connection with La Pata Avenue.
A Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the proposed La Pata Gap Closure and Camino del Rio Extension is available for a 45-day public review period that began on November 3, 2010. The DEIR is available at the following locations for review and on the County website provided below:
